My name is Pauline Matthews and I live in West Wales. I was brought up in the little hamlet of Gwbert not far from where I live now and I spent many hours exploring the beaches and rocky inlets. I have lived all my life in the area, moving around North Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion before settling in my present home near Mwnt.
Living in Pembrokeshire I saw some of that beautiful county. From that time came my love of rivers and trees. In my working life I was trained as a therapist and have worked in the NHS and Education sectors, and my role depended on my awareness of colour and perception.
I moved back to Ceredigion and retrained as a Counsellor using my creative skills in working with images with my clients. I have recently retired from paid work but am never idle.
I have always taken inspiration from the countryside around me and captured what I saw in photographs. The West Wales landscape has played a great part in my photographic journey.
It is a beautiful part of the coast between the Port of Fishguard and the University town of Aberystwyth. I walk a lot with my little dog and take photographs as I go. I specialise in Seascapes and spend a lot of time standing in the sea waiting for 'that special wave'. You will see some of them on my website.
I have always taken my camera with me and I undertook some training when digital photography became known. I loved the immediacy of it. I also took some time to learn more about Photoshop and found that Digital Art is certainly my forte. I use this now to make up my special Greeting Cards.
In 2012 I became mindful of people having to be more careful with their money. So I started making and selling fridge magnets, keyrings and coasters with my photographs on.I am happy to make these up using your special photos if you email them to me.
My stock is now in a craft shop in Cardigan called The Crafters Cwtch. This little shop is an Aladdin's cave full of wonderful locally made crafts.
I have expanded my repertoire to include all things 'paper'. I explore everything that may be made with paper and you will find many of these things in the shop. There is a selection of these shown on the Gallery section of this website.
I am always enthusiastic about undertaking commissions to take a photograph of your special place or to make up a special picture or card that will be a happy momento for the future.
This year I am going back to my roots and love of photo-montage. I have made up five different ones of Cardigan and am just about to work on another one. Newcastle Emlyn is a nearby small market town and I have made up one there too. My latest offering is of the village of St Dogamels, or Llandudoch in Welsh. This is a pretty village set on a hill about 2 miles from Cardigan.
I am hoping that my photographic record of these places will survive long after I am gone and people will be able to engage with their memories.
